DARSHAN - Give Me 12" (1995)

A few days ago, I posted Darshan's album, 'Awakening,' and gave a new link for their followup album, 'Spectra,' but did you know that before they began producing pounding, rumbling psychedelic music, Grant Collins and Mark Robinson were creating house music together? It's really not a surprise if you think about it, because there have can be found a heavy house influence in many of their later tracks under labels such as Flying Rhino, Phantasm, Dragonfly and Chaos Unlimited. This 12" was released in 1995 by Ouch! Records Ltd. and features Lisa White on vocals.

VARIOUS ARTISTS - Trance Europe: A True Electronic Body Experience (1993)

This is one of the very first techno compilations I ever bought. The music may sound dated, but to me, it has aged quite gracefully. For a Cleopatra techno compilation, this was and still is, in my opinion, really damn good.

ZERO - RAVEnous (1992)

Hey, birdies! I am presenting to you an album that is special to me personally: this is the very first full-on techno album I ever listened to, back in 1992 (I was 12 years old), while on a Baptist church youth rally bus, of all places. This album literally changed my musical perspective and opened up so many doors for me in the future. Immediately, I went from Paula Abdul, MC Hammer and New Kids On The Block to a steady electronic audio diet; the full, lush tree that is my love for electronic music rooted itself right then and there and began to sprout overnight.

Sure it's somewhat dated now, but I still jam this album from time to time. It goes through the entire rigmarole of early 90s techno without ever becoming too cheesy or full of itself. Some of it actually reminds me of early Lords Of Acid - except with a sprinkling of Christian influence, via a couple of audio samples towards the end, but it never gets preachy or heavy-handed; it's more about opening oneself up to love and spreading it around, and hey, what's wrong with a message like that? Especially these days.

GUSGUS VS. T-WORLD - Russian Bootleg

HEY THERE, HUMMERS! If you've taken even 20 seconds to glance at my previous posts, you'll see that I am no stranger to the music of Iceland's legendary electronic band, GusGus. Here is a missing piece of the gg puzzle: a very rare Russian bootleg release of the 2000 album, GusGus vs. T-World, containing 4 extra tracks that, to my knowledge, are only available on this specific release. I don't know much about these bonus tracks, as not much information exists on this bootleg from pirate label, Halahup. I'm not sure if they were written around the same time as the rest of the tracks on this album, or what are their backstories - all I know is that I am happy to have them, and hopefully now you will be too!

* I have a slight suspicion that these "bonus tracks" may not even be GusGus at all. There are moments that sound like it might, could possibly be, but altogether it doesn't really fit the bill with anything else they've recorded. Further suspicion stems from the fact that Halhaup had also released this ridiculous bootleg, which features images of an entirely different band, not only on the cover, but inside the booklet as well. If ANYONE has any real information on these tracks, it would be greatly appreciated if you clued me in down in the comments section below! Either way, as an oddball in the GusGus universe, I'm allowing it to stay.

GUSGUS - EXTRA STUFF - VOL. 1 - 6

GUSGUS - 30 Licks To The Gooey Center (NEW LINK!)

*Original Post: May 18, 2008 -- OK, so rather than post GusGus single after GusGus single, I am going to combine them into one really fabu package!

What we have here are remixes and b-sides from the new GG lineup. Tracks 1 through 8 are remixes from the album "Attention" from 2002. Tracks 9 and 10 are really great b-sides, while track 13 is from former frontman Daniel Agust's solo album "Swallowed A Star" from 2005. Track 12 is a 2 + 1/2 minute interview with the new GG! Then the rest are all remixes from their newest album, "Forever" from 2007. Track 11 is my personal favorite track off of that album. :o)

I really hope you all enjoy this! If you check this out, let me know what you think of it - even if you hate it.

BALDO - Shooting Star EP (NEW LINK!)

BALDO - Shooting Star EP (2007)

Original Post: March 11, 2008: Another Netlabel free release, this time from Neovinyl Netlabel. Baldo has put out one heck of a techno-house EP! This is really laid back and pretty, yet totally danceable at the same time.

My personal favorite from the entire label. But you should go check them out - they have some really awesome stuff!

Here's the word on Baldo, from the Neovinyl website:

Baldo, born 1983 in Jaén (Spain), breathes all the musical styles that are cooked during the following two decades in his country. Conscious of his love for the music, it's in the year 2000 when he acquires his first DJ equipment. Thus begins a way marked by a constant search of innovation.
In 2001 he moves to Málaga. In a little time he established in the electronic scene of Malaga and begins to play in different Clubs of the city, proposing an electronic and minimalist alternative to the House predominant trend. Later, he plays at important clubs of the Spanish circuit, like Metrodanceclub (Alicante) or Miga Club (Granada).

In 2005, with two companions founds Neovinyl. It's in that time when he initiates his career as electronic music producer. After he meets Carlo, who joins to the Neovinyl project.
In April of 2007 Baldo edits in Neovinyl his debut EP, "Shooting Star", where he shows the deep and pop side of his productions.

EL_TXEF_A - Siempre Quedará Amuma's House (NEW LINK!)

EL_TXEF_A - "Siempre Quedará Amuma's House" (2007)

Original Post March 9, 2008: This is a fantastic EP! I know I say that about everything that I post here (I never post anything I don't personally like), but that's because they're all great. This is one of the coolest (in my opinion) releases from Spanish netlabel, Flumo. El Txef A is one of the most unique and original electronic acts to come around in a really long time.

Here is the album info from the Flumo website:

Our brand-new signing El Txef A is responsible for the avant-garde style that characterizes this Ep. Aitor Etxebarria ,linked to music by means of his brother, continues his training in music at this moment. If we could manage to gather Nathan Fake, Oliver Koletzki, Apparat and James Holden to have coffee and wonder about young and new talented musicians, we are sure that El Txef A would be in their minds. Enjoy these four gems and please don´t skip one of the ep´s that no doubt will be regarded as on of our classic works.

1. Siempre Quedará Amuma's House (125 bpm)
2. Hitzak (125 bpm)
3. Zuri-Beltzez (125 bpm)
4. Una Mirada Al Cielo (122 bpm)
5. Trouble (122 bpm)

Z@P - Café EP (NEW LINK!)

Z@P - Café EP (2007)

Original Post: March 13, 2008: Here's another cool Flumo release that very well compliments the Baldo album I posted earlier.

Here's what Flumo has to say about Z@p!

Z@p is a young dj and producer born in Montevideo suburbs who debuts with this Café. His style is hypnotically designed, making us to freak out through different sonic sketches to convey, no doubt, in the dancefloor. Filled with subtleties and samples, this 4 tracks combine elements adjacent to electro o minimal, highlighting this dj’s personal vision of the avant-garde. Wego is the artist who signs his own reinterpretation of the evocative and vaporous Café.

1. Café (125  bpm)
2. Mood (124 bpm)
3. De Vuelta Otre Vez (125 bpm)
4. Café (Wego RMX) (126 bpm)

JONDI & SPESH - "Sky City"

JONDI & SPESH - "Sky City" (1999)

This single takes me back to the days right after high school, when I was living in Longmont, CO and going to raves on a nightly basis. Wow. Those were some crazy times! I had some friends that I would drive out into the middle of nowhere with, park on the side of the road, blast some techno music and jam out under the stars. It was awesome! I can't believe that was almost a decade ago!

Anyway, these are some of the songs we would go nuts to. I especially love the 2nd track, "Impenetrable Sayonara". I hope you all enjoy it at least half as much as I did back then.

JONDI & SPESH - "I Drank It"

JONDI & SPESH - "I Drank It" (2007)

Wow... I remember back in high school I used to go nuts to Jondi & Spesh's "Impenetrable Sayonara". One of the coolest songs I've danced to at any party or club, but that's just my opinion.

Well, J&S are still at it, and making some damn fine (can I say that on this channel?) house music! This is one of their newest EPs, which I am pretty sure was exclusively an MP3 release. This might be the best house single I have heard in a few years. It's very pretty and really funky.

NARCOTIC THRUST - "Safe From Harm"

NARCOTIC THRUST - "Safe From Harm" (2002)

This is the infamous house single by Narcotic Thrust, featuring Yvonne John Lewis. There are so many variations of this single, last I counted there were 12 different versions. All with different mixes. So I grabbed the two that I actually own and threw them together. And I added a couple of different songs in the middle, just so you won't want to put a shotgun up to your head after the 7th remix in a row of the same track... Not that you'd really want to do that, this is a pretty groovy track. And catchy too. It'll be in your head late at night while you're trying to sleep, and that's when you'll get the shotgun! "I need... I need... I need protection!"

1. Safe From Harm (Dean Coleman's Safe From Dub Mix)
2. Safe From Harm (Original Mix)
3. Safe From Harm (Behrouz & Andy Remix)
4. Safe From Harm (Dean Coleman's Bootleg Mix)

6. I Like It (Pete Lorimer's 29 Palms Remix)

8. Safe From Harm (Dean Coleman's Safe And Funky Dub)
9. Safe From Harm (Rauhofer Remix)
