I WAS A TEENAGE STRANGLER - Original Soundtrack by Severed Lips Recordings (1998)



What to say about this movie, other than it's a heck of a good reaction movie, meaning it is a fun movie to show to other people to watch their reactions. This movie garnered an underground cult following, because it was softcore/B-movie actress Misty (Erin Brown) Mundae's on-screen debut as a sassy, druggie party-goer appearing in the film's second half. The film itself, wielding a transgression and budget that makes early John Waters films look like Hallmark movies, concerns itself with Winston Strange (pronounced Strangé), who decides to throw a totally bitchin' house party, inviting random high school students from all over town to attend. The kids arrive with their attitudes and deviant behaviors (and good lord, some of these people are complete lunatics) in tow, and they all start to get loose. Little do they know, Winston planned this party as a welcome home party, of sorts, for his deranged brother, Miles, who happens to have an uncontrollable strangulation fetish - oh, and who also happens to have just escaped from (walked out of) the nearby psychiatric institution. Needless to say, countless throats are throttled until one terrified teenager (Misty/Erin) is left.

I know you're thinking, what's so crazy about that description that makes this such a good "reaction movie"? Oh, believe me. This gets crazy over-the-top and offensive. For instance, there's an extremely graphic coat hanger abortion scene (and I do mean graphic), which I have seriously lost friends over. But whatever, it's just a movie. If you can't laugh at life, you can't laugh with me.

ANYWAY - The soundtrack is extremely fitting to the movie. Severed Lips' (officially naming their film outlet 'Factory 2000' with this movie) films were known for their trippy, bare-bones synth and grunge/garage rock soundtracks, primarily because Severed Lips was first and foremost a lineup of local New Jersey bands, whose members made up a meat of the cast from the label's early films. Caress Of The Vampire 2: Teenage Ghoul Girl A Go-Go - Original Soundtrack (1996)



A really cool lo-fi/indie soundtrack to a really cool lo-fi indie movie. Caress Of The Vampire 2 was the first feature from underground film company, Factory 2000, then called Severed Lips Recordings. These guys made some pretty twisted homemade exploitation features, and led to the "discovery" of softcore erotica/B-horror scream queen, Misty Mundae (now using the name Erin Brown in more "legitmate" films, like 'Dickshark' by Bill Zebub, auteur of such classics as 'Antfarm Dickhole', 'Forgive Me For Raping You' and 'Breaking Her Will' - because, you know, one must expand one's horizons). But these guys were much more than just naughty camcorder flicks. Severed Lips Recordings had a wide arsenal of live indie rock/grunge bands that would play in the NJ area, and this soundtrack showcases some of those bands. As for the founder and head of Severed Lips/Factory 2000, William Hellfire, these days he really IS making more "legitimate" (I hate that word) films, such as the excellent Upsidedown Cross, starring Erin Russ and David Yow (yes, THAT David Yow!), a brilliantly written/executed exorcism drama/thriller. PSYCHO SISTERS - Original Soundtrack (1998)



This is the soundtrack to the 1998 low-budget horror-comedy, Psycho Sisters, which was a remake of an even lower-budget movie of the same name from W.A.V.E. Productions. Jane and Jackie witnessed their parents' demises as young children, and later the rape/murder of their younger sister, Janice. Naturally, this causes a bit of emotional stress for the siblings, so they are locked away into an asylum. (Not enough) years later, they are released out into the public with a clean bill of health, so naturally, they instantly embark upon a crazy killing spree, killing any and every man they come across, blaming ALL men for their problems. Until, that is, one of them begins to experience the awakening of her sexual desires. Uh oh, this could cause trouble..

Anyway, check out the movie if you can find it, or are into that sort of thing. It's a lot of fun.  And so is this soundtrack! Stick your beak in and feed!
